the ferry

We had a busy weekend at church helping with the marriage enrichment class. Monday we headed to kentucky to do some business and then stopped in Maysville to do some geneology. We found that lazarus and Zerabbubel both bought land there in 1797 and 1800.  Z sold his in 1806.  We did an other errand and then input into the GPS to take us to Pickaway Ohio. Well, the GPS took us to a little river town and quaint streets. Next thing we know, we saw a ferry slip, not a bridge!!! Getting up courage to investigate, I found that for $5 they would take you immediately to the other side of the river. So we went for it.  It was so pretty!  it is the first time that I have been on the Ohio River. I took about ten minutes! ... Well we went to a lot of places in Circleville, Ohio - the county seat: the courthouse, the health dept, the public library and two cemeteries. We found L's marriage license and record of marriage which we already knew. And we found alot of stuff about other Madduxs: guardianships and cemetery records. As I studied cemetery records I figured out that at least two woman had given birth to die a few days later. Their babies died 5 days to a month later. It was so sad.  It was an interesting adventure!

lawnmowers

There is something about lawnmowers and me!  There is not the right connection! Today I decided to get ahead of the rain and mow the yard.  I lowered the blade so that I wouldn't have to mow again before the weekend. Well. I lowered the blade and then ruined the blade. I forgot there was a metal spike by the telephone pole on the corner. I hit it and It tore up the blade!  This is the second blade for this year! So now about 4 swipes have been done around the side yard and the rest is unmowed. Not so nice to look at.
I believe that I told all of you that my apple tree turned out to be a mulberry tree. It is ripe. One neighbor told me that mulberries were poisonous. So I looked it up. I knew you had eaten them at the Millers and never gotten sick. Well, FYI the unripened mulberries will make you very sick and even give you hallucinations! ( according to an article I found with google). But, the black ones are edible. So I ate some with my cereal for lunch today. The strawberries are about gone and the cherries are ripening.  Summer is here!!

hooray!

hooray!  I have searched and searched for my punch bowls. Everywhere. In the closets, in the garage, in the loft, behind and under things.  wouldn't you know when you least expect it!! I was pulling out boxes to get more bed linens. When what to my wondering eyes should I see but a black garbage bag. Could it be? YES! In the linen box in Cindy's old room- all three punch bowls and laddle!  Hooray!!
Emma, do you have access to your cake cutter? If it is handy, please let me know and bring it. otherwise I'll get one.  See you soon!!

Ramblings

Well, it seems like the perfect chance to blog since I have unrivaled computer time right here in Scottsburg. But, what do I say? I have thought work, lived work for so long since returning from Mexico. (For some reason this keyboard is sticking and omitting letters so you may see/read some weird stuff. ) I apprecate all the phone calls recently. It helps to talk about something other than work. I am looking forward to working in the flower beds soon. The flowes are really petty here that  I see on my daily walks. I took the old bread drawer from the old kitchen, painted it and planted flowers in it . It just fits by the door in Scottsburg. 've painted two other draers and hope to plant greens in hem that will be tansportable. ( are you having fun deciphering this keyboard??)  more later when I can ramble with a thought line....!!!

Rain, rain

It has started to rain again here in southern Indiana. We did have 2-3 beautiful sunny days when all the snow piles melted. I didn't wear a jacket earlier today. I have even seen daffodil and tulip bulbs starting to poke through the ground in Scottsburg, but not in Sandusky. Anyway there is hope for spring. I anticipate spending my spring break cleaning and organizing the Sandusky house.  There is dust everywhere from the kitchen work. The linoleum tiles are down in the kitchen so it looks nice, especially since it matches the laundry room floor. We ordered the cupboards and cabinets from Pleaks. It was exciting to get that started. Cheryl just about walked me to the car!! She was excited too!

During one of the snow-ice storms I started a jigsaw puzzle. I almost have it done. I couldn't find an other waterfall so I did a lighthouse scene.  I don't think I'll glue and frame it though.

Have a good week!
